On to Amish Country - Shipshewana, IN and Flea Market

We stayed at the lovely Morton House Inn in Shipshewana.  This is the kitchen that we had use of, including fridge space.  We made our breakfast here and one supper.

The Morton House was built in the late 1800's.  It had 3 rooms upstairs they rent and one downstairs off the living room.

We've never seen so many Amish people shopping at the flea market before.  We asked a few Amish people if they minded if we took their picture, and they all said they didn't mind.  Times are changing.

Cool picture for a dining room wall - it was at the Inn where we stayed.

Tom! and Berrien Springs Visit with Friends

Tom has been volunteering at Tiller's so we stopped to see him on our way to Berrien Springs.

Dick started Tillers.  They teach people who come how to do animal agriculture in 3rd world countries like plowing with horses rather than power equipment.  He and Terrie were out of town the day we stopped by.

We lived in an upstairs apartment in this house our first year married.  It used to be all white, and the dark shingles don't help its looks!

Mom's house at 152 Ridge in Berrien Springs looks so different with no flowers or shrubs or shutters.

AU's ad building where I worked 4 summers and school years too.

Randy and Mary Ann Graves took us on a tour to see AU's "new" buildings, including the Performing Arts Center.

This new fitness complex is across the road from the church in what used to be the circle full of trees.

It's very nice - lots of space and fitness equipment.

The large windows along both sides really make it bright in the pool.

We'd never seen the additions on both sides of PMC where we were married in 1975.

Yes, that's a LONG aisle I walked down.  I love that church.

Silver Beach and the St. Joe Pier. We ate at Silver Beach Pizza with Graves so waited out here to be seated.

They both plan to work another two years before retiring.

We walked out on the south pier after we ate, but it was after sundown.  It was very hazy from the fires out west so wasn't a nice sunset.

We went to Judi and Gary Doty's place to meet up with them and Bob and Lois Moore on Tuesday morning, July 20, to go out on Indian Lake.

Judi's parents' cottage on the lake

We enjoyed lunch on the deck and then great conversation

Weko Beach dunes are totally overgrown now, so you have to take the stairs up to the top.

The beach was very busy and lots of folks were in the water back by the parking lot.  The water temp wasn't bad on my feet.  If we'd had more time, I would have enjoyed a swim. We settled for a walk instead and then headed for the blueberry patch to pick some MI blueberries at Rambos.

Frankenmuth and Kelly's Anniversary Party

After our chicken-less July birthday dinners in Frankenmuth on Wed., July 14

Notice the sweatshirts - it was sooooooooo cold in there and we waited forever!

It felt so good to warm up outside after we finally were finished.

Jake and Zackariah

Anne and her kids stayed 3 nights at the Bavarian Inn so we got free putt putt golf.

Colleen watched Lola, Anne's dog, while they were out of town.

Arranging flowers Friday for Kelly's 20th anniversary party Sabbath afternoon, July 17

Kelly told me 55 people attended the party she put on, with Anne's help.  It was a good excuse for a family gathering.

Sarah and Timmy are expecting in December!  She's still in the navy, in San Diego.

We played a round of Clue Sunday after haystacks - the least number of games ever during a visit to Plymouth.  And for the record, RANDY won! (Anne was in Frankenmuth the first couple of days we were there, and then she helped get the party stuff together on Friday all day.  Sabbath the whole afternoon was at Uncle Jim's.  Sunday after the one game Anne had to go to work doing Census interviews - so we'll give her an "excused absence" from games this time.)
