Claytor Lake State Park Family Reunion

She's the reason for the get-together!  It's about half way between us in Collegedale and Mom and Coleman in PA, and Amy and Jeremy in MD.

Jeremy and I had fun with this floor puzzle for five minutes, but left the 1000 piece puzzle to the rest of the puzzlers.

I am amazed at how many of the family actually enjoy doing puzzles, a mystery to me!
This "Something Fishy" puzzle is missing 23 pieces they discovered.  It's one Ruthie brought home to put together from the Sam. Ctr. to determine if it was all there - NOT!  It helped occupy the time while we waited for Jeff and Sara and kids to arrive from near Chicago, a 12 hour trip.

Singing together Sabbath morning with flute and guitar accompaniment

The weather was lovely, though cool.  It was in the 40's Sabbath, but no rain or snow.

Amy n Jeremy about to leave at 8 Sunday morning.

The weekend together went way too fast.

Ruthie and Milton's complete family (wish we could have gotten one of these pictures too, but Bismarck is a little too far away for a weekend trip for Ryan and family)

Uncle John and Nate enjoying the dog training set from Grandma TJ

One of the most scenic spots at this VA state park we love.  We spent a lot of summer days here boating and camping during the four years Randy taught at SVA.

It sure was nice having John join us from Colorado!

On our Sabbath afternoon hike (or bike ride for Amy n Jeremy)

The beach at Claytor Lake provided a lot of fun for Maddie and Nathan

Sat. night Hand and Foot time, then later Iota made its appearance.

Jeremy brought his remote control helicopter - how fun!

Nathan is somewhere in the picture, or at least his hat!

The Claytor Lake Overlook is new, along the Claytor Lake Trail we hiked

Numete from Scratch

Recently I saw a recipe on FB for Numete so I gave it a whirl.  All of us who tried it this weekend thought it tasted just like the old Numete.  But it's not as firm.  So next time I make it, I'll put in less water.  We bought 2.3 lbs. of raw peanuts in the shell so that was a painful process that we won't repeat.  I'll pay the price for the shelled ones when I make it again.
I filled the cans too full.  You are supposed to fill them just up 3/4 of the 19-oz. can.  So it started running over when it was steaming and I scooped quite a bit out.  So my finished Numete is shorter than it should have been.  Here's the recipe for any brave soul who wants to give it a whirl:

Numete

2 lbs. raw peanuts
1 c. soy flour
5 tsp. salt
5 1/2 c. water

1.  Grind peanuts into a fine meal.
2.  Add water and blend until smooth.
3.  Mix in flour and salt.
4.  Fill greased 19-oz. cans 3/4 full and cover with foil
5.  Place cans on a rack or canning jar rings in a large pot
6.  Fill pot with water reaching half way up the cans and cover the pot.
7.  Bring water to a boil, reduce heat to a simmer, and steam for four hours.
8.  Cool cans before removing Numete.

This recipe yield 2.5 to 3 lbs., or approximately five 19-oz. cans.
